Germany Calls on Iran to Stop Military Nuclear Activities

(MENAFN) Germany stated on Monday that Iran must halt its “military nuclear program” and ensure that its ballistic missile arsenal is properly controlled.

Government spokesman Stefan Kornelius said at a press briefing, “Any diplomatic solution ‘requires Iran to verifiably stop its military nuclear program. No ballistic missiles may be launched from Iran against Israel and the Gulf states, and destabilizing activities in the region must cease.’” He added, “The ballistic missile program must be brought under control.”

Iran maintains that its nuclear activities are intended solely for peaceful, civilian purposes, despite international concerns about advanced uranium enrichment levels. Negotiations on the future of the program are ongoing, with Iran seeking to retain enrichment capabilities while pursuing relief from sanctions.

Iran’s ballistic missile program forms a central part of its defense strategy and has been described by Iranian officials as non-negotiable. Prior to last year’s 12-day conflict with Israel, estimates suggested Iran possessed 2,500 to 3,000 ballistic missiles. Analysts indicate that the stockpile was roughly halved during the hostilities.

Earlier this month, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized that Tehran’s missile program is a “defensive matter” and is not subject to negotiation now or in the future.
